Before pouring of concrete commences, additional horizontal and vertical timber struts should be positioned to maintain stability of the formwork during pouring and tamping of concrete.
Each section is joined by “winged” plates which give additional bonding and stability when the concrete sets.
It is important for the existing floor to present a good key for the additional concrete. If in doubt, best to consult your concrete supplier / building contractor.
With good operator care, concrete falling into the channels can be avoided. The channels can also be covered with a temporary membrane.
For standard Schmelzer 300mm deep channels plus an additional 35mm in which sits the cover. The total depth of concrete required is 335mm
Re-enforcement of concrete may be considered depending on anticipated load bearing requirements.
Once the concrete is set, the timber struts can be removed and covers can be positioned ready for use.
